President
& CEO
“For
me, staying operational throughout the years has required
a proactive approach to obtaining business,” says Tobin.
“This industry requires nurturing key contacts and relationships,
knowing your craft, and then exceeding your clients’
expectations!”
Tobin
& Associates,
an African American-owned, woman-operated, public relations
firm, was founded after its owner, Pat Tobin, realized
both the impact and the power of the African-American
consumer when few major advertisers or corporations were
acknowledging this segment of the population. Now, in
the year 2006, Tobin & Associates is celebrating it’s
23rd year in business, and has become one of the most
prominent African American-owned public relations firms
in the nation. It was Tobin’s entrepreneurial spirit that
propelled her from a one-woman shop at a kitchen table
into a multifaceted enterprise.
A
true visionary,
Tobin began to share her expertise in strategic planning,
product positioning and community relations outreach
with national corporations and organizations during
the early 1980s. This effort created both the principle
and foundation of Tobin & Associates, a company
that now serves celebrity clients, entertainment companies,
non-profit/political organizations and national/international
corporations. Her mission has expanded beyond the African-American
segment, to include communications efforts to reach
Asians and Latinos, as well as the general market.
Tobin
& Associates
has a long and successful track record of building publicity
that has yielded solid results for clients. Team Tobin
helped Spike Lee kick off his career and become a household
name. More recently, Tobin & Associates orchestrated
publicity for such projects as Team KOOL Green; Collins,
Mesereau, Reddock & Yu, LLP; Essence Entertainment
and the 2003 and 2004 BET Awards. For the past 15 years,
our firm has represented Toyota for brand building,
community relations and publicity in the ethnic community.
The current client roster also includes Judge Mablean
Ephriam (FOX-TV’s "Divorce Court"); The Cochran
Firm; Fitzgeralds Casino & Hotel; Los Angeles African
American Women’s Political Action Committee; Torrance
Area Chamber of Commerce; Hollywood Scriptwriting Institute;
author Gene Grant; and the BET Awards.
Over the
years, Tobin’s efforts have resulted in considerable
local and national recognition. Tobin's
award list includes Minorities in Business Magazine’s
2003 "Entrepreneur Spirit" Award, the Southern
California Minority Business Development Council's 2003
Supplier of the Year in the Class I category, the Success
Hall of Fame’s 2003 Award, the 2002 Black Hollywood
Education and Resource Center President's Award, the
2002 NAACP ACT-SO Virna M. Canson Award, and the 2001
National Association of Women Business Owners "Member
of the Year" Award. As a Supplier of the Year recipient,
Pat Tobin was awarded a scholarship to attend the Management
Development for Entrepreneurs (MDE) Program at the Anderson
School at UCLA through Union Bank.
