Chaka Khan - Eight time Grammy Award winning songstress

The multi-Grammy Award-winning Songstress and four-time American Music Awardee joins Anthony Anderson, Earvin “Magic” Johnson and Tavis Smiley as honorees for the event.

(Torrance, CA – January 30, 2007) -- The Torrance Area Chamber of Commerce in partnership with the Greater Los Angeles African American Chamber of Commerce has announced today, that eight-time Grammy Award-winner Chaka Khan will receive the Humanitarian Award at the Torrance Area’s 10th Annual Black History Month Celebration Luncheon on Friday, February 23, 2007.

The popular R&B singer, who has received over 19 Grammy nominations, will be honored at a lunch and program, which will be held at the Torrance Marriott, 3635 Fashion Way from noon to 2:00 p.m., following the Cultural and Vendor Walkway from 10:45 a.m. to noon.

Kahn, best known for her award-winning hit, “I Feel for You,” joins an illustrative list of previous humanitarian honorees that includes: Olympic decathlete Rafer Johnson, Dr. James Rosser, President of California State University, Los Angeles; and former Sony Corporation executive Harvey Lehman (posthumously).

Another honoree for the 10th Annual Celebration is Tavis Smiley, broadcast journalist and New York Times bestseller (Covenant with Black America), who will deliver special remarks. He will also be honored during the celebration with the Leadership & Community Commitment Award. James Worthy, former Los Angeles Lakers great, KCAL-TV Sports Analyst and NBA Hall of Famer, is this year’s master of ceremonies and Rev. Eric P. Lee, Executive Director of the Los Angeles Chapter of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference will deliver the invocation.

Business mogul Earvin “Magic” Johnson, another member of the Lakers dynasty and NBA Hall of Famer, will be honored with the 2007 Professional Spirit Award for his exceptional feats as a business leader and entrepreneur.
